Sometimes referred to as tip action or fast tip rods. I originally wanted a fast action but fenwick did not have one in that model. I recommend fast action for all beginners. Moderate action rods flex more near the middle of the blank.

I am looking at a fenwick hmg 7 medium heavy rod with a moderate fast action. Fast action blanks initially flex in their upper 1 3rd. Because of the additional rod flex energy distribution and forgiveness this is one of the most versatile bass rods you can own. The moderate fast action is an advantageous choice for presenting moving baits but when spooling up with 40 or 50 pound braided line the moderate fast action can become suitable for casting plastics and jigs.

Fast action is popular because it provides sensitivity for monitoring bites and can quickly load up for hook setting.
